Allison Batchelor- Week 3 reflection

Doctor’s offices are starting to upgrade their office’s technology so they are up to date with today’s society. As of 2014, medical records are starting to transition to be online. Also, co-payments for doctor visits are staring to drop in price. Payments for insurance companies are slowly starting to drift from quantity of appointments to reimbursement of quality of appointments. Insurance companies are now looking to have lower costs and better quality. Doctors want to see their patients when they are sick, not when they are healthy. Doctors only get paid for when their patients are unhealthy and need treatment. Health plans will be changing completely to electronic records in the near future to advance patient capability.

Fitness apps are the newest approach that is keeping people healthier. These apps keep track of what you are eating, how many steps you take each day, and some can even measure your sleeping patterns. Inside Tracker is an app that was released to test a service called InnerAge, which takes samples of your blood and gives you nutrition tips on how to live a longer life. These samples are tested for a couple of different things including your glucose levels, vitamin D, and testosterone levels. This blood test can also test for iron and cholesterol levels. A similar app is called 23andme, which also tests blood samples, but this one tests for diseases instead of health signs. The InnerAge can tell people what to eat more or less of.

There is a new invention called the Smart Desk. The Smart Desk is a tool that helps people with desk jobs stay active while they are at work. This desk can detect when you are sitting for a while and will recommend you to stand up to get your blood flowing again. The desk is adjustable so you can move it to where you won’t strain your eyes. These desks are very expensive, if you really don’t need it then there are other ways you can stay active while you are at work. You could go walking on your lunch breaks and make sure you are eating healthy while you are at work and not snacking on junk food. The newest technology systems are changing the world as we speak to better our lives.
